Workshops: Pre-Conference
Pre-Ozwater '09 workshops will be held on Sunday 15 March
1:30pm / 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
Workshop 1: Decentralised Systems – Do They Need Centralised Control?
Decentralised water and wastewater systems present important opportunities for the water industry. However, they are not without challenges, particularly in relation to ensuring cost effective and robust risk management. This workshop will involve presentations and a panel debate exploring the strengths and weaknesses of regulatory frameworks, how and why systems fail, emerging technologies and management regimes.
Workshop 3: Emerging Water and Wastewater Technologies
The water industry is responding to a range of challenges presented by issues including as water shortages, energy effi ciency and increased adoption of risk management frameworks such as in the recently updated national water recycling guidelines. The workshop will explore these challenges driving innovation within the water industry, overview key current R&D initiatives and will examine new technology developments.

Workshop Objectives
Jointly organised by the International Council of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the Australian Water Association, this 3.5 hour workshop will provide US and Australian perspectives on how utilities are responding to the current and emerging issues facing utilities management. Senior representatives from the US and Australia will share insights and experiences on ways utilities can adapt in response to demands for continual improvement and higher performance. .
